Alpha Perisai Sdn Bhd is an oil and gas engineering and technology company that provides total subsea hydrocarbon (oil and gas) field development solutions primarily through the use of its AlphaPRIME™ field development concept.
In 2004, Alpha Thames completed the development and qualification of the extensively patented AlphaPRIME all-electric incremental subsea hydrocarbon field development system.
With an investment of circa $45 million to date, the system is now qualified for subsea applications of up to 3,000 metres water depth.
Alpha Perisai is the first company in the world to purchase a license to manufacture and deploy AlphaPRIME oil field technology. It is marketing the technology which is aimed at reducing production costs and capital expenditure for offshore oil and gas producers.
The heart and brain of the field development system is the AlphaCPU (Central Process Unit) which consists of a passive manifold - KeyMAN - and autonomous modules that contain all the functional elements - System Modules.
Thus AlphaPRIME has the potential of distributing power and control from the host facility to the wells and thereby centrally controlling the complete subsea field through the AlphaCPU. Furthermore the System Modules, which operate in parallel, contain the processing equipment such as, pumps, compressors and separators along with power, transformers, switchgear and controls. The System Modules also use electric flow control and failsafe actuation for instantaneous process control. The standardised interface between the System Module and KeyMAN consists of underwater mateable multiported pipework connectors, chemical connectors and electric control and power connectors. The system also uses "industry standard" field proven technology within its patented architecture.
This approach, in addition to significantly enhanced recovery of reserves, allows for the incremental development of the field, because when the reservoir characteristics change, the AlphaCPU can be updated with appropriately configured System Modules, to cater for different flow regimes. Moreover the approach allows for continuous production at all times, whilst System Modules are interchanged. As the System Modules are complete autonomous units, they can be configured, maintained and tested as required, in land based factories, as pre-commissioned systems to give optimum reliability.
This means that when a field is developed, a KeyMAN is installed and piped to the wells. Initially the reservoir may not require any form of processing equipment due to natural drive, so in that scenario the initial System Modules would be configured as simple bypass units containing minimum equipment, such as controls and metering. When the well pressure starts to drop a System Module containing a booster pump and ancillary power and control equipment can then replace the initial module. When the well starts to gas or water out, a processing System Module with separation and water injection pumps can be installed. In this way an operator can be on top of his reservoir management, irrespective of whatever surprises the reservoir may produce.
The open architecture of an AlphaCPU standardised field deployment system, means that it can be manufactured and built by any number of specialist contractors and may use "best in class" field proven equipment and components.
The AlphaPRIME System-Modular architecture has been further developed and patented for topsides application to great advantage.
